Blog: Next New

I believe the next new media will be a US government regulated digital currency. This does not currently exist. It will be something similar to Bitcoin. Bitcoin surpassing $10,000 shows that digital currency is in demand. Japan as a nation is already very accepting of digital currency. Japan is home to bitFlyer which is the world's largest market exchange for Bitcoin. Digital currency lowers transaction costs and makes payments at any time very appealing. Paper based currency as well as physical coins are being used less and less every year. According to creditcard.com,  " In a 2016 survey, payment processor TSYS asked over 1,000 consumers which payment form they prefer. Forty percent chose credit cards, while 35 percent selected debit cards, and only 11 percent specified a preference for using cash."

Blog: Wiki So Far

I have not added in content in thus far, but I plan on contributing to the Twitch portion of the wiki works. As a daily viewer of Twitch, I would like to touch upon who the big twitch streamers are, how many people watch as of 2017. In addition, I would like to talk about eSports and how the community has been growing. Likewise, I would like to talk about the sponsors and the big games that are being streamed. All in all, I would like to make our Twtich wiki similar to that of our Youtube contributions.

Blog: P2P

1. What is file sharing? File sharing is passing on information from one computer to another via a network.  2.  What is P2P File sharing? P2P file sharing is similar to regular file sharing. The main difference is that P2P is more done by regular individuals whereas file sharing in general is done by larger institutions and distributors.  3. What are some examples of P2P file sharing? Some of the biggest P2P networks are PirateBay and bit torrent as stated from econslutancy.com.

Blog: Privacy

One of the biggest problems about New Media is privacy and confidentiality. When people sign up for New Media websites such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter they don't look into the terms and agreements. Essentially these websites are able to gather information about you and collect revenue from advertisers. The fact that they have a lot of information about millions of people makes New Media prone to hacking. Cyber security is a serious issue that can leave millions vulnerable. The latest hacking was of Equifax. The hackers were able to steal social security numbers and credit card numbers. If this was to happen to Social Medias, then users would have all of their private and confidential information exposed.

Blog: Advice

I believe Baruch College should be more active on Youtube. Currently the Baruch Youtube page is very inactive. I believe there's a lot that the school offers that can be showcased via videos. For example, Baruch can have a video explaining all of the different minors that the school offers. In addition this can be done for Majors and why Baruch is so special. Most of the videos that are up on the official Baruch Youtube Page are very outdated. Some of them are 6-8 years old. In addition, Youtube is a great platform to attract young prospects. As more and more people use new media, the more people will seek for answers on it and videos are a great way to take advantage of this. Likewise videos on Youtube are also a great way for Baruch to display the culture it promotes.

Creativity and New Media

The following link is of a montage that I had created in collaboration with a friend last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR2d4ve_5Qs I love playing video games, and Youtube has allowed me to edit and share my favorite game play moments with others.

HW Creativity

New media fosters creativity because it allows users to collaborate and cooperate with one another. According to the article, Twitter Serves Up Ideas for Followers , hashtags are used in a creative method to attract users who share a common interest. Via new media, users are able to piggyback off of one another. For example, through YouTube, users can learn and design their own products based on how others did it. There are various tutorial videos. In addition, creative people are awarded by going viral. Through the power of youtube and other social media platforms, a creative mind can make a great standard of living.
